(Beijing, December 6) The "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Rhythmic Gymnastics International Invitational Tournament continued at the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium today. Slava Corn, vice-president and chairman of the press commission of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) bestowed praise on the Chinese gymnasts and local volunteers for their good performance and enthusiastic services.

Slava Corn said China has been doing well in both artistic gymnastics and trampoline, winning many medals and prizes. In rhythmic gymnastics where Europe is a traditional powerhouse, Chinese gymnasts have also made great progress, entering directly into the qualifications rather than competing with wild cards. She believed rhythmic gymnastics in Asia was making sound development. As China is strong in artistic gymnastics and trampoline, she thought China would not spend too much time on rhythmic gymnastics.

Andre. F. Gueisbuhler, Secretary General of FIG, also commented that it was a success itself for the host team that its gymnasts made the qualifications without wild cards.

Talking about the volunteers, Ms. Corn said it was very important for them to have the passion for their work. Every sport event would need the help of volunteers and every volunteer could make his/her contributions to helping the athletes display their unique abilities. So, she added, it was very important to have the volunteers recognize the importance of their work. She recalled that once after a tournament all the volunteers put on a T-shirt with the words on: "We've made it". Corn said this made the volunteers feel that they did get involved in the competition.
