China's Liang and Feng place one-two in parallel bars

(Beijing, December 3) China's Liang Mingsheng and Feng Zhe swept the gold and silver medals in the parallel bars final of the 2007 Artistic Gymnastics International Invitational Tournament held at the National Indoor Stadium this evening. Placing third in the event was Yand Tae Young of Korea who had ranked first in the PB qualification.
Liang gave an exceptionally good performance with an exercise valued at 6.80, which was second only to teammate Feng Zhe's. Liang performed consistently with good connections of all his parts and got a 9.00 from the B-jury despite an unsteady landing. He eventually won the PB title with 15.800.
Feng Zhe was the last to perform, with a routine of 7.0. His technical execution was less consistent but two judges from the B-jury still gave him 9.00. With a final B-score of 8.775 he emerged the runner-up.
Korea's Yand Tae Young, who had placed eighth and sixth on parallel bars at the 2005 and 2006 world championships respectively, was regarded a veteran with rich experience among all the finalists today. He also chose an exercise of 6.80 and after two judges awarded him 9.10 his B-score reached 8.950, higher than that of China's Feng Zhe. However, as his difficulty value was lower he had to settle for the bronze medal with 15.750.
