Roundup: Ukraine superior in UB, China's Lu wins 2 more golds
(Beijing, December 2) The finals of rings, uneven bars and men's vault of the 2007 Artistic Gymnastics International Invitational Tournament were wrapped up at the National Indoor Stadium this evening as Ukrainian Dariya Zgoba beat Jiang Yuyuan of China to win the uneven bars gold while Chinese Lu Bin collected two more golds in rings and men's vault after earning the titles of pommel horse and men's team.
Rings
In the final of rings tonight, Lu Bin and Yan Mingyong of China fixed on 7.2 and final-high 7.4 difficulty exercises respectively with Lu offering a more steady execution to gain a final-high 8.80 B-score attributed to the two 9+ marks among the six. Danny Pinheiro Rodrigues of France collected 15.700 on a 7.3 A-score and a 8.4 B-score to place third.
Uneven bars
Dariya Zgoba of Ukraine, scoring 8.925 on a 6.90 difficulty base, was deducted 0.10 by the judges but still strong enough to win the gold with 15.725. China's Jiang, doing well the 6.90 exercise in the women's individual all-around, chose a final-high 7.10 optional, only to get 8.425 for a 15.525 total to be content with a silver. Australian Joura showed her ability to bring out her best of a relatively easy exercise as she scored a final-high 8.950 on a 6.30 base to place third with 15.250.
Men's vault
Lu Bin, who had already gained two golds at the tournament, combined two 9.60s on the same 7.000 difficulty exercises for a 16.525 top ranking. Romania's Flavius Koczi made 9.325 on the 6.60 second vault to be second while Japan's Okiguchi Makoto took the bronze with 16.087.
