Cheng Fei wins second gold without "Cheng Fei vault"

(Beijing, December 1) In the women's vaulting horse final, the last of the four contested tonight at the 2007 Artistic Gymnastics International Invitational Tournament, China's Cheng Fei beat all her opponents to claim the title with 15.150 points. Hong Sujong of the DPR Korea and Marissa King of Great Britain placed second (14.450) and third (14.187) respectively.
Cheng, a vault specialist, is known for her "Cheng Fei vault". Her archrival Hong Sujong has also performed this stunt in her previous competitions. The women's vault final today was therefore regarded as a trial of strength between the two. However, it turned out that neither of them used this highly difficult part tonight.
Cheng did two vaults valued at 5.80 and 5.60, while Hong Sujong's were 5.80 and 5.20. Compared with her DPRK counterpart who failed to reach 9.000pts in both vaults, Cheng Fei was obviously superior in technical execution, earning a two-vault total of 15.150 (9.525 and 9.375) to win her second gold medal of the day.
